Ria Devereux

PhD Student, Microplastic Pollution University of East London

Ria Devereux recently submitted and defended her PhD which focused on microplastics in rivers and estuaries case study:The Thames River at the University of East London. Previous to that, she did a masters in marine science and a project on microplastic abundance within Cnidaria and Ctenophores within the North Sea. Devereux has a strong interest in plastic pollution especially within marine and freshwater environments with research papers published within the area.

Danielle Dove is Surrey Future Fellow and a Fellow of the Institute for Sustainability at the University of Surrey. Her research centres on Victorian and Neo-Victorian literature, with a specific focus on dress and fashion history, material culture, and sustainability.

 

 

Katherine Duffy

Senior Lecturer in Marketing University of Glasgow

Katherine Duffy s a Senior Lecturer in Marketing at the Adam Smith Business School. Her research interest lies broadly within consumer culture and explores two research domains: 1) sustainability and circularity 2) the digitalisation of consumption. Her approach is qualitative and interpretivist.

Her research is published in a range of international journals including Journal of Management Studies (FT50), Journal of Business Research, Consumption Markets and Culture, Journal of Retailing and Consumer Services, Journal of Marketing Management and Gender Work and Organisation.

 

 

Susil S Dungarwal

Beginning his career, as a salesman in 1985, Susil S Dungarwal, is one of the few, who has grown from the ‘Shop floor’ to the ‘Board room’ in the retail & shopping mall sector. Over the last 38 years, he has headed various retail chain stores and shopping malls. Along the way, he left his mark on renowned retail brands such as Saint Mark, Sampath Jewellers, Paramveer, Silknots International, Big Kids Kemp, Saree Kemp, Shoppers Stop, Varsha Lifestyles, Haiko Supermarket, The Loft, The Culture Shop (now Suriti), and The Loot, to name a few.

He has been advisor to some of the best names in the shopping mall sector, prominent being Lulu Group, DLF Group, TATA housing, Malabar Group, Omaxe Group, Supertech Group, Gokulam Group, Chaudhary Group (Nepal), Alpine Group (Nigeria), Smile group (Oman), etc.

Over the years, he has advised a staggering 100+ malls, collectively spanning about 35 million square feet across six different countries. It is no surprise that he has earned the nickname as the ‘Mall Mechanic’ a testament to his unparalleled expertise and invaluable contribution to the ever-evolving world of shopping mall development and management.

He has been a keynote speaker and panelist at various Indian and international shopping mall forums, seminars and conferences.  He is also winner of over 40+ national and global awards for his achievements in the retail and shopping mall sectors.

He recently authored a book titled The Mechanics of Malls, which has been globally appreciated. His first two books as a part of the ‘Knowledge Series’ covering the entire retail sector prospects of India, were released by The Economic Times Intelligence Group (ETIG) titled Changing Gears – Retailing in India 2000–2001; the second edition of the same Knowledge series was published in 2002–03.

 

 

Devangshu Dutta

Founder Third Eyesight

Through his career Devangshu Dutta has worked at ahead-of-the-curve initiatives. Beginning with broadcasting (All India Radio, 1986-1991), Devangshu commenced his career in the consumer sector in 1990 with the leading modern retail chain in India of that time, eventually heading the category that contributed one-third of the company’s sales. He then worked as part of the launch team of a 50:50 JV of an international fashion brand in marketing & distribution. Thereafter, he joined a small consulting firm at its earliest stage and contributed to its growth into the largest consulting firm in the retail and consumer products sector as a joint-venture with the leading global consulting firm in the sector. In 1999-2000 he co-founded an internet-based supply chain solutions business.  Subsequently, Devangshu founded Third Eyesight (a specialist management consulting firm) in 2003 and co-founded PVC Partners (an early-stage venture acceleration firm) in 2007.

Consulting: Devangshu has led consulting engagements related to strategy, operations and organisational change for clients from Asia, Europe, and the USA, with size ranging up to annual sales of over US$ 80 billion, from sectors including lifestyle and fashion, food & grocery, agri-business, home & DIY, consumer services, quick service restaurants, e-commerce, information technology, professional services and social development. Third Eyesight’s clients include market-leading corporate businesses and family firms from across the world, as well as government organisations, investors, and trade associations in various sectors.

Melanie Edwards

Researcher Australian Widlife Services

Melanie Edwards (nee Garner) provides research support and investigations for biological aspects of projects at the Australian Widlife Services.

She has worked as an Intern at Smithsonian Institution, Australian National, and University of Canberra, where she researched a diverse range of animals including sea otters, bottle-nose dolphins, dessert tortoises, brush-tail possums, wallabies, kangaroos, Australian and Amazonia parrots and eastern bearded dragons.

She has taught hundreds of tertiary biology students for a number of subjects, including genetics, immunology, cytogenetics, nutrition, diagnostics and wildlife management and has also worked within industry-government committee partnerships while in the Australian Department of Agriculture Water and Environment.

She has collaborated and co-authored with Professor Wilson on several papers, including kangaroos and greenhouse gas emissions and Indigenous land management.

 

 

Pedro Patrique Ferreira da Silva

Research and Education Lead Slow Fashion Movement

Pedro Ferreira is a fashion revolutionary. With a double Masters degree in Circular Economy and a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, Pedro acts at the intersection between technology, innovation and sustainability. His expertise is in the environmental performance of fashion materials, predominantly focused on footwear. For the past two years, Pedro has represented Brazil in the Slow Fashion Movement, a global NGO that aims to guide customers to more environmentally and socially conscious decisions. Pedro also works on the global board of SFM, as the Research and Education Lead, designing and establishing primary data collection and partnership with Academia. Currently, Pedro works full time as a lifecycle assessment (LCA) specialist in Norway. In his free time, Pedro learns how to sew, so he can wear the revolution he promotes.

 

 

Triona Fitton

Senior Lecturer, Sociology and Student Success University of Kent

Triona Fitton is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research at the University of Kent, and a Senior Fellow of Advance HE. She's interested in charitable action, charity shops and second hand consumption and has published a number of articles in this area. She is also interested in intersectional inequalities and precarity in education, especially race and class.
